-THANKSGIVING 2017-
Happy turkey sacrifice day, I mean Thanksgiving everyone. -Tabbes 2016
It's that wonderful time of year again. We have family over, we eat delicious food and then if your over 30, regret eating it 20 minutes later. Thanksgiving is meant to be a to celebrate the things you're thankful for. Whether you are thankful for your cat, your new little brother or even peace and quiet because you were given a pair of earbuds to block out your little brothers screaming, we can all think of at least one thing we are grateful for.
But there is one small bit of Thanksgiving that we all need to survive, the family. We love them and they love us, but at one point they want to know everything about you. I was surprised that my cousin didn't ask for my social security number (well he didn't ask this time). The best way to fix this... eat dinner as fast as you can and then go play with their dog. The easiest thing is just to say 'Can I be excused? I want to go play with Copper.' (yea my cousin didn't have a better name). Unless you have been in their company for less than 30 minutes, the answer will 98% be yes (it would be 100% but the dog was at the groomer for about 20 minutes and I had to listen to them talk that much longer). Another fix is to bring a kid your babysitting (YOU NEED PARENT CONSENT, FIRST). It is super easy, you eat and then you can go watch the kid watch tv, and since it's a holiday you can charge extra for your service😁.
Did you know there is a difference between Thanksgiving and thanksgiving? Thanksgiving is the holiday while thanksgiving is the action of giving thanks. Grammarly doesn't even know this, it kept trying to fix the lowercase. Kinda cool, right? Anyway, I want to talk to you about specific things you may do during your Thanksgiving like maybe you make a list of things you're thankful for (like for example). DON'T BE AN EDGY TEEN ABOUT THIS! If your family cares enough to still do it, it must clearly mean something to them. So don't be like this:

So for your own sake (and so I don't come hunt you down) try to see the point in what you're doing, and try doing it from responsible teen you (believe it or not, there is a part of you like this!). If you can't bring yourself to do so, talk to your parents or whoever is running the particular activity. Explain to them your view and see what happens. They will then show you their view and then you either (politely) debate it for a bit longer. If you're thinking 'ew I'll have to talk to people?!', then I am sending you to your room, RIGHT NOW. Thanksgiving is about being thankful you ungrateful *@%#^&^!%@%$&(@?!%^.... I'm sorry. In conclusion, be grateful. I don't think writing 8 things you're grateful for will kill you, do it just to show that you respect your parents, please.
Ok the next dreaded thing, Thanksgiving parties. I HATED these so much when I was a kid that as soon as we pulled up to their house I threw a tantrum with all the forces of child power I had. We did that for 3 years before they gave in. But for you unlucky folk who still have to go, I have a few tricks. 1. Dog. The main savior for an introvert at any party. Cats, bunnies or any other furry creature is a good substitute if there is no doggo. 2. Bring 'Homework'. If you have actual homework, this is the perfect time to finish it. If not, pretend to do homework and watch youtube or text people on hangouts. People will usually leave you alone if you say you're doing homework. 3. Don't Go. Simplest fix. This way there is no chance you will come in contact with people at all. The easiest excuse is that you are sick or someone really close to you is. People usually understand especially if you can make it very realistic (be descriptive, sound concerned, etc.). Yes I know this makes me sound like a terrible person but sometimes you just don't feel like being around humans. I get it.
If you reached the end of this post, either you really care about Thanksgiving or you have read all the other posts and have nothing to do, either way, I hope you have a fantabulous day!!!
Love, Liz <3
