☆VOCALOID OF THE WEEK☆ #1: Hatsune Miku

Hi! This is the first of the weekly VOCALOID OF THE WEEK series! I decided to start with the 'face' of VOCALOID, the very popular Hatsune Miku!

Alt. name初音ミク or Miku Hatsune
Company: Crypton Future Media
Voice Provider: Saki Fujita
Versions: VOCALOID2, VOCALOID3, VOCALOID4
Languages: Japanese, English, Mandarin Chinese
Gender: Female
Canon Age: 16

Miku is by far the most popular Vocaloid out there, featured in more than 1000 songs and 800 albums. Her last name, Hatsune, means 'first sound' in Japanese. This is misleading, as it is sometimes believed that she was the first Vocaloid, which is not correct. She was the second Vocaloid to be released for the VOCALOID2 engine, after the english Sweet ANN.

Miku's vocals are sweet-sounding and have a wide range. Her voice isn't very mature.

My opinion on Hatsune Miku:
Despite her popularity, I didn't discover Miku until I went deeper in the VOCALOID fanbase. I had actually seen her before, not sure where, but when I found out she was a Vocaloid I was surprised, I guess. I had always thought she was an anime character of some sort. I didn't like her at first, I thought she was kinda overrated. I still don't love her voice, but she's featured in so many amazing songs. I was lucky enough to conveniently walk in on her 10th anniversary this year in August, and see so many great songs be released by incredible producers for her birthday.

MY FAVOURITE MIKU SONGS:

Sand Planet (Suna No Wakusei) by Hachi (Japanese)

Ura Omote Lovers (two-faced lovers) by Wowaka (also Japanese)
